Thanks all of you. So I understand that I have to hire a car + driver + guide.
Can anyone recommend such a service?

We are a family of 7 (including 15 month baby) that would like to go from Kunming to Dali and then continue with a car to Shaxi - Lijiang - Shangrila.
We intend to make this trip on mid April 2011.
Does anyone knows the road condition, especially the part from Kunming to Dali, which I read was under construction.
Can any one recommend a car+ driver + English speaking guide?
