Forums > Living in Kunming > A little help from anyone living in Xizhou

@AlexKMG: she's twelve. I think a bit of naiveté may come with the territory, thus the request for help.

I'll be a bit more specific: she would like to know the differences between things like child-rearing in big cities vs in the countryside. Same goes for differences between games kids play at recess, school year and curriculum differences, what adults do for entertainment etc. Her class is traveling to Xizhou later this year and she's doing preliminary research now to see what major differences exist.

GoKunming just received an email from an incredibly inquisitive and precocious young woman who lives in Shanghai. She needs help writing about life in rural Yunnan and has several questions I can't answer. Is there anyone out there familiar with Xizhou who would be willing to help?

@blobbles: There will not be a GoKunming story about this. Details, at this point, are speculation and we would prefer the bombast taking place on Weibo not spill over here. What we do know is that the concerned parties spent the night in police arbitration where they reached a mutual agreement.

The walk by Dr Detrano, and everyone who accompanied him, raised 160,000 yuan. On behalf of Bob and everyone who was involved, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed.

The fight to save these kids is ongoing, so if you'd like to help out, please follow the links in the article above.

We will also be announcing details for another round of fundraising soon.

Subways are scheduled to be finished by 2020. The 2017 date is for when Yi'er-yi and Xue Fu will become two-way, but the subway construction should be chaotic for both streets for the next few years.

Passable no-frills Dongbei food including lots of dumplings, tofu, disanxian and other standards. Fair prices too.

A pleasant surprise hiding inconspicuously inside the Second Ring Road. Go for the temple, stay for the lovely forested park and its ample solitude.

Had the buffet here recently. A bit expensive but discounts are available for groups. Seafood, including crab, lobster and sushi were all fantastic. European and Chinese dishes were great as well. Beer was included with dinner. Overall, excellent service and food.

Excellent dumplings for omnivores, vegetarians and carnivores. This is a hole in the wall joint with no frills, but the owners are friendly and the dumplings are just right. Five stars if they get higher quality vinegar.
