Nah. I spend my money helping Nigerian royalty moving assets out of the country. Contrary to popular belief it's made me quite a wealthy panda.

Usually after about a month after the infection the antibodies will be detectable in a test but not for everybody. A second test after further 2 months (3 months after the infection) should certify if you are a negative or a positive. Any test performed less than a month after an infection is likely to turn out negative even if you've contracted the virus hence is a waste of effort and money. As to where to get a test taken I believe any real hospital will do it around here and if not they can definitely refer you to someone who can. Good luck.
Yup. It's a fxxxxxx disgrace. My girlfriend can get tickets for 3-400 yuan normally but I can only get them in the 7-1200 range. They claim that the special price is for pensioners, soldiers and students but since every Chinese person can get them it IS discrimination. Btw China Eastern is crap. Their website sucks, they lie to your face when there are delays and they discriminate. They even rebooked my flight a month after I had reserved and paid for it so instead of a 4 hour stopover in Beijing I got 11. They didn't give me an explanation and repeated emails never got me an answer either. First time I came here their plane from Berlin nearly crashed, had to circle for half an hour after takeoff to dump fuel after 2 engines set out and we had to make an emergency landing. Avoid China Eastern like the plague.
what??
This is how the whole Edison Chen thingy began.

The comment from Chris had deserved a wider audience. Beluga?
Went there yesterday and it totally made my week. Nice decor and friendly staff and a real salad bar. Sadly we both wanted mexican food so I can't really say much about their other courses. The food was great but just a tad spicier would have improved the dish. The best thing was that we almost had the place to ourselves and we could have a quiet conversation without shouting, spitting Chinese people in the background. I realised how much I had missed that since coming here.
We went to Chicago Coffee a couple of days ago and it was a nice experience. The place is cozy with soft comfy chairs (I realized how much I have missed one since coming here) and they have a nice little collection of English language books in the corner consisting mainly of classics and travel litterature. I was looking forward to trying their advertized tortilla bar but it wasn't up and running that evening.
Instead we went for 2 12 inch pizzas -roast chicken and pepperoni- but we quickly realized that 1 would have been enough. Those things are heavy. I am mainly into Italian style pizza but Chicago's double layered pizzas are well worth a try. Their coffee seems to be a bit on the expensive side but people say good things about it and they have got a nice selection. I wouldn't mind dropping by again some day,, hopefully when they've got the tortilla thing going. English speaking staff btw.

Kunming bracing for new water crisis
Posted byI'm not sure what water they use for watering all the green stuff but every time I see them doing it at high noon at 30 degrees I always wonder if no one's ever told them to do it in the evening or night when 3 fourths of it doesn't evaporate. Just one of many issues of which Mao was one of them (without going into details).
Rising food prices driving inflation across Yunnan
Posted byI refuse to believe those numbers are correct. The real CPI is higher and if I should take a guess based on my own observations I'd say the number is closer to 8-9 percent. By the way, did anyone else notice if the price of meat is a lot higher outside of Kunming? Where I have been lately travelling in western Yunnan the prices are roughly 20-25 percent higher.
Recipe: Spicy yellow pot chicken
Posted byOh yeah,, the recipes are back! (damn, Ian beat me to it. Oh well, it deserves double recognition). Some of the recipes from 2008/2009 are still some of my favourite Chinese dishes. More please.
