So my dad and his wife are in town and I'd love to find a nice massage place for my stepmom. We went to a typical Chinese blind massage-style one where they kind of punch you for awhile, she wasn't impressed. It would be great if there was a more Western-style place where they use scented oils and offer privacy and play Enya in the background and such. I am aware of Canaan, but they're insanely expensive. If you know of anyplace that you would bring your dad's wife to for under 600 yuan, please let me know! And yes, I've read all the old forum threads, there's mention of a place called Ginko Tree from 2009, is this place still in existence? THANKS!
yeah, i know a lot of great massage places.
in thailand.
next to the beach, the equivalent of 40-50 yuan, oil massages on nice comfortable tables, incense, quiet, qualified massage therapists, no TV blaring in the background with the massuese focused on the TV rather than the person they're massaging.
I concur! Thailand give a way better massage than China!
There is a reason why massage here is done with the clothes on, and grannies don five layers of underwear.
For an instant trad ch msg experience - Get an iron maiden, and replace the innards with wooden shafts, climb in and slam the lid repeatedly.
For a therapeutic massage - Step 1 - Contact your nearest travel agent...
I got all excited when I saw 3 responses, but these are not helpful. We're not going to Thailand. So is the answer really no then, there are no nice, affordable massage places in Kunming?
A pre-requisite seems to be pain, preferably leading to bruising. The black is said to be 'the poison coming out'. ' Hematoma indeed', says the doc. I have known more than one person need medical treatment after a trad ch msg, usually due to damaged tendons or forced joints.
I have also been injured and needed 6 months to recover.
Hey there. You might consider asking at some of the nicer hotels, like the green lake hotel. You don't always have to be a guest at a hotel in China to get a massage there. Just avoid the seedy ones! I've also heard good things about the Jinfang Forest Hot Springs 金方森林温泉, but it's a day trip.
Traditional Chinese massage - across from the temple on yuantong jie - the big traditional chinese medicine place - not a particularly private setting with enya - but they burn moxibustion which (not that I'd know definitively) smells remarkably like medical marijuana...
