I just can't stand it when I take a short taxi ride home and the driver has the unbelievable nerve to charge me 10 yuan! It should be 10.5 yuan. There must be some nefarious reason for this behavior. I have called the Taxi Complaint Hotline but to no avail. I can't understand Chinese.
I am glad this thread is here, I can write endless bitches about being over, or under, charged by cruel, uncaring taxi drives. Cheap Charlie laowais rule!
haha, nefarious. you got a cackle out of me there.
@Alpage48
Same in Shanghai at least everytime when I got there.
It seems like that some people don't understand this, some of us don;t just take rides to enjoy a beer in a bar or to the next brothel.
Some of the cheap charlie foreigners actually have to take taxi's and somtimes with guest or people on tours and that means to let them alone with those bad cabbies it always gives me a bad feeling. Plus that they always overcharge. So now for the people that don't get it....imagine you have a scooter, car whatever transportation and each time you need a service regarding those you will be overcharged. As I said eralier, if it's a 500RMB ride becasue it says 447.5 I am more than happy to pay it, it's fair. I pay for the services rendered. If it's more it pisses me off. Because it's cheating. Imagine something you have to do everyday and you always get ripped of, even though it's a small sum.
Plus it's a selfpromoted tourist heaven here. so I say screw it..they are scum and their service is lacking basically everything.
It's not cheap it's fair and rational.
haha, more scum!
Lords of The Nefarious Over-charging Scum Drivers
I've found that they often round down and don't charge that extra 3 or 5 jiao. But Gawd they're in need of an Iphone with a GPS app some of them.
I took a taxi to wicker basket once. I showed the driver the business card. There's a small map on the back of the card. She still had no clue how to get there. So it means she must be from Shenzhen and hasn't taken 5 minutes of her time to learn any of the streets here. They're generally decent, but lack training.
You have to ask them through the window if they know where the place is, and if they agree to take you. It is silly. But, I have found, if you take the time to talk to them, make a joke, laugh, and be friendly, they will go out of their way to help you find the place. Just do not be a typical, demanding foreigner.
Also, let me say this. Rounding up is cultural. Don't be an obnoxious foreigner and insist that Kunming run on the same cultural principles as Salt Lake City.
Oh yeah, they do go out of their way to find the place. Like I said, most drivers are courteous and decent. But it just seems like back home taxi drivers know the city like the back of their hand.
" Just do not be a typical, demanding foreigner."
You mean like....demanding a taxi driver take you to a specified destination...without first cracking a joke?
Right
