No Smoking at Salvador's?

bucko (698 posts) • 0

National law or not, Yunnan will never enforce it. Too many $$$ to lose here. Besides, all you sensitive non-smokers can go live in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, USA or Europe to escape the evil smoke.

Face it, this area is smoker's country and it will always be so.

Remember.... Love it, or leave it!

Bucko, your hypocrisy is remarkable:
"I hope Kunming would ban ALL dogs."
"NO PETS ALLOWED! ... How sweet it is!"

How can you assert that keeping dogs should be banned, while cigarettes, which are addictive, deadly, and harmful to others, shouldn't?

I have no argument with your suspicion that the ban will not be enforced. I take issue instead with your permissive attitude towards smoking in public places.

I think the proposed ban is a huge step forward. I am not getting my hopes up at all about enforcement, but I do take issue with people like you who, it seems, would like to sabotage such an important effort.

It's been working so well in the United States, it may as well be done in China I suppose. Instead of people standing in restaurants and bars smoking in designated areas, they'll be standing outside of the restaurants and bars smoking - - - and possibly bothering those who would never enter a bar to begin with and simply want to walk on the street without the inconvenience of walking through a group of smokers.

Smokers are like the new lepers --- soon we'll have colonies outside the cities.

"all you sensitive non-smokers can go live in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, USA or Europe to escape the evil smoke"

Every pregnant woman and child must be exiled from Kunming to avoid damage to their health from smokers who don't care what harm they do to others?

I resisted commenting yesterday but now I will jump onto to bashing wagon.

Bucko, you are assuming that the no smoking law is targeted at foreigners that all the bitchers and moaners should leave China and go back to their smoke-free homes.

While we foreigners perhaps have the luxury of leaving the country, how about the countless natives who have no such options? The poor country guys and gals working slavishly in all those restaurants that you've patroned and inhaled your second-hand smoke, can they "go live in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, USA or Europe to escape the evil smoke"? Do they really have that option?

Despite what you may believe, you are not better or superior than the natives here in Kunming just because you are a foreigner and the government does not cater their policies to fit your needs, in fact, they could careless about the expat community.

Having reread your comments and posts here in GoKunming, it appears that you are very opinionated have have a problem with just about everything here in Kunming. That being the case, why did you buy a condo here if it is so bad? Is it because of the lax smoking attitudes? Were you getting all wet fantasizing about all the different places you can blow your cancer causing, asthma aggravating second-hand smoke? Is that why you got your panty-hose in a bunch? Because now the Chinese government has dashed your childhood dream?

Next time Bucko, please be more considerate before shooting off at the mouth. If you can't do that, then perhaps it is you who are the one that should leave the country and go home.

Cheers~~

Every time a smoking ban is proposed everyone thinks that it'll negatively affect business, will alienate too many people, and will ultimately be impossible to enforce.

And every time smoking bans become wildly popular and successful and businesses ultimately benefit through the infusion of new customers previously deterred by the smoke.

ban it. ignoring the fact that I'm writing this from Sal's now, if there were less smoke and WIFI (!!!) I would come here a lot more often and be a lot more comfortable...

[and though it's off-topic, the WIFI doesn't poison people any more than cordless phone systems (aka not significantly at all)... besides, most of WenHuaXiang is covered by at least faint signals anyway]

^As far as I know, the Sal's thing is not about health effects.

Even though you might go there more often, so would a bunch of other people sitting around taking up limited table space for hours on end and spending very little money. I think that's the reason.
