DALI DENTIST WARNING

rdali (6 posts) • 0

I just want to share this with people living in Dali or those considering to get dental work done in Dali.

DO NOT, I repeat do not, please for whatever reason, do not go to the dentist behind the Bakery 88 on Bo Ai Lu. The 'dentist', a Ms. Yang is one of the most unprofessional person in the medical trade I've ever come across.
In the last year, just from people I know, she had destroyed one person's tooth, wrongly operated on a different tooth than the one needing operation(while still charging for it, apparently malpractice suits are not common here) and made some brutal mistakes with my wife's root canal. And to top it off, when I was down there to get my wife records from the 'dentist' yesterday, she had 2 chickens outside that she had ordered delivered to her office and they came inside and pooped on the floor in the reception which is only 2m without any physical separation from a patient's chair. I pointed the poop out to her and she just shrugged. WTF?
Anyways, people in Dali, do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this 'dentist'. Your teeth are not something to joke around with unprofessional service. Go find a good dentist in Kunming or at a hospital in Xiaguan.

Maybe, my good neighbor Mrs. Yang is not a world-class-dentist, who can tell, - however, if she cannot do the job, she will tell you right away. And if you have known for such a long time that Mrs. Yang is not up to the job, why did you send your wife there for a treatment ? And the chicken story ? Oh my god, this is just a funny story, maybe you will never understand. Take it easy in Dali, it is just a lovely small town, we don't need flames of hate here ...

i've had my teeth fixed there including a very complicated root canal,so has my wife and many friends, mrs yang has been totally professional, it's small town and were lucky to have her...the chickens..ha, the story is funnier than you can imagine. but the humor would be lost on you mr.rdali.

ok, i'll bite... (sorry...) did everything just go all weird? what the cluck is the deal with the chickens? are good dentists in China as rare as hen's teeth? anyone care to let me in on the joke?

ha ha..ok heres the poop;
the chickens were brought from 50 km away destined for soup. they ran away briefly one of them was found the other was 'lost' for an hour or so until he was discovered inside the practice hiding behind a dentist chair, thus the poop...a story you wont hear coming from canadian dental practice, haha.

Well, one mistake Yang made was operating on a wrong tooth. How is that professional? The other incident happened to a friend of mine earlier this year, 2 months after getting his tooth 'fixed' he needed to go down to Bangkok and refix it again.

Also she completely lost it on me when something between my wife and her got lost in translation. As in freaked out on me on the phone, actually screamed and yelled at me. Yeah, that's totally pro.

As for chickens running inside the clinic, for those of you who thinks it's quaint, or cute and charming, well, I guess there are people who would opt to have open heart surgery performed in a abbatoir as well, eh?

I wish 'mikemikkelsen' could explain why it's humorous to have chickens running around, potentially pooping on dental tools before it was inserted into people's mouths. Tell me which point of humor I lost back there, mikemikkelsen.

@laobendan: Yang actually mentioned to me that she graduated top or near top of her class, so you can take it however which way you want. And I'm not trying to 'flame hatred' here, more of a case of 'buyers beware'. Sorry if you took it the wrong way.

Bangkok is the best place in the region for dental work (and for any kind of medical problems). With 5 weekly flights offered by THAI and a similar number by China Eastern and the flight time only being 1h45m (and to Chiang Mai only about an hour), I would never ever consider going to the dentist in a country where communication is so difficult and you never know what you're going to get. If I'm sick in Kunming, the first thing I would do is get my ass down to Thailand (no exceptions). I've seen the hospitals in Kunming and I certainly don't want to be stared at by some farmers in a doctor's office (why don't they shut the door and stop letting other strangers intrude on your visit)?

Culture shock 101 I'd say...no way you'd find that in Thailand (or in the better hospitals in Shanghai, Beijing or Hong Kong).

rdali is right!!! I should have said something earlier. I was in dali late spring and that same woman messed up a couple of my teeth. I went there on a recommendation from a friend and sorely regret it. Not only did she not fix the my chipped tooth, she screwed up the teeth either side of it saying,"don't worry I'm just polishing." My hairs started to stand on end at that point as I realized she was not polishing but grinding into the wrong tooth!!!!

Stay away, stay far far away. I should have stuck to my gut. This woman is creepy and I am pretty sure that she enjoys messing up foreigners teeth. I pointed to the chipped tooth in my mouth and on a diagram before hand, and she still ground into, not one, but two of the wrong teeth! She also lied to me about having cavities (luckily I stopped her before she could get to those).

Animals will do anything to feed their offspring. This is no exception...

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience, that's what this website is about I guess...I've been to a dentist in Kunming, at the corner with Zheng yi lu and hua shan nan lu, I think you can get the ad on gokunming. They worked professionally, clean and smooth, my dentist couldn't speak english but anyway other dentists can speak some English...finally I can definitely recommend that place, much cheaper than back home and good quality, tks again for your feedback.
