Anyone know large and deserted open fields where I could fly stunt kites and perhaps power kites?
Preferably within 1 or 2 hours from the city with public transport or bicycle. And of course preferably a windy spot with no obstacles.
Also, do you know shops (not online) where you can buy kite supplies?
Not out of town, but Tanhua Temple Park is huge and very empty most days. Giant lawns and a great view over the city too:

Out of town, you may want to check around Fumin.
The carpark for the Yu'an Shan Cemetary is a good spot. Not many cables about and no obstructions, high wind. It's on the road up toward Bamboo Temple, but turn right up the first valley and go all the way to the top.
