Friendliest - and Nastiest - people in China?

The reason, as I'm sure you know, that they like America more than Japan is because America didn't annex Manchuria as a proxy state or storm into Nanking and massacre 300,000 odd people. Japan did and it left a bit of an impression.

America has a while to go yet before it gets in Chinese bad books.

Mongolians are thought of pretty badly in Beijing. Mostly as they get out of hand when they're drunk and lots of the working women in the discos around the city are Mongolians.

Yes, I know, but I'm talking about actual people who are in China. And Americans and America have certainly been in Chinese bad books in the past, especially when virtually none of them were here (i.e, 1950-80) - in other words, it seems to respond more to political, economic, propagandistic etc. realities than to actual contact between actual people. .
So who do people find to be the friendliest/nastiest foreigners in China, who the friendliest Chinese - geographically or otherwise? I think it's particularly interesting to pay special attention to Foreigners, since most people on the forums are western foreigners and most of these probably associate with other western foreigners more than with Chinese (exceptions, I'm sure).

I remember America was public enemy No.1 for a spell when I was in Beijing 1999. You since apologised and it's all been forgotten.

I didn't apologize.

Anyway, this illustrates my point: what governments do, pretending to be people, is often believed in by the people they pretend to be. But I want to talk about groups of really friendly, or really nasty, real people in China, and who they are friendly or nasty towards - as well as why, if anyone's interested.

Clinton apologised on your behalf.

Then I can remember for a few months after if you were a Yugoslav you were a hero on the streets of Beijing.

But then you're looking for a nationality of all friendly people or arseholes.

I can't imagine that existing.

There is probably one or two arseholes who carry Bhutanese passports. Likewise, perhaps there are one or two Nigerians out there that are pleasant people.

I think you're just looking for someone to make a stereotype so you can point out an exception.

Stereotypes are formed because there are substantial amounts of people in that group who conform to it. We know there are exceptions. The stereotype of an Aussie in a filthy vest and a battered hat with corks in it. Well, I have met one or two Aussies that weren't like that. Their vests and cork hats were very presentable when I met them. I once met a thin American who's voice was so quiet I had to strain to hear him (perhaps he was Canadian, I could't quite catch what he said)

You're after something that I think no one can say exists.

OK, then: what stereotypes are to be the subject of this thread? As you say, we all know there are exceptions. How about: Western foreigners are the nastiest group of people in China(?) How does that compare with Hunanese? (and Why would be interesting too)
Or is this whole thread just bs?

this whole thread is bs... especially from the point you monopolized it on page 2.
