@maruschen
I can't see how anyone working 5 days a week for 6,000rmb has it easier here but maybe I'm a cynic.
In Europe someone could get that much a month easily without even going to work (maybe not in America, I don't know) Now, imagine how much they would earn if they had an education degree.
Napoleon, probably depends on where they're from. I knew US guy who said cost of living here is much cheaper, his life was much better here, but he got 10000.
In US, average teacher is paid only a little.
@marcuschen
Alright, maybe then. Also the Americans are much more accustomed to working odd / long hours that some of these teaching jobs demand.
@Alexez, you don't need an official site to understand that. A native English speaker who holds proper qualifications and has the skills and experience to teach, would be as good of an educator as a non-native English teacher who has the proper qualifications, skills and experience. China is one of the few countries where the requirements to get employed as a foreign language teacher are this absurd. How do you want students to get educated when teachers get hired because they are of a certain nationality, are White and hold any sort of degree, regardless of whether it's related to education or not? Like someone said in another thread before, even someone holding a degree in Basket Weaving could get hired as a foreign teacher here, as long as they look the part. That's the education and future of kids we're talking about.
@yankeeoo
Agree totally.
Nationality has nothing to do with teaching English.
It's not even as though you could argue about accents, have you heard an Ulterman, a Glaswegian, a Boar, a Geordie ? surely a Swedish accent may be sweeter to the learner.
Some native speakers don't know their arse from their elbow. How you separate the Greek national and the Australian national is surely is by his suitability for the job, not his passport, no?
I went to a conference in Malta with the head of Sunderland University's English department - He was an Iranian and he knew his stuff.
