Playing boardgame in Kunming

JingWei (30 posts) • 0

My friend and I want to start a game club in Kunming. I have been playing all sorts of games and I know how hard it is to find other game players. My friend is Chinese and can explain the rules to Chinese players. We think that games are a great way to have fun and make new friends.

We already have the famous (and very nice) Ticket-to-Ride with two different maps/versions and should have a third map very soon (china!). It means that up to 15 people can play that game at the same time. We are also open to play card-games or Chinese game, such as mahjong.

We are looking for like minded people who want to join us. If you have your own game it is even better.

To make the thing starts we are trying to set-up a regular meeting every Sunday afternoon, and see where it goes from there.

For the first meeting of the club we offer to meet at my place (near Yunnan Normal University) on Sunday 11th January at 2:30pm.

We think that everyone should bring a bottle of soft drink or some snack, to make it friendly.

I also propose to create a pot where everyone would give a symbolic contribution of 5rmb each time. This should allow us to buy more games. typically a board game cost around 400-600HKD in HK. If you know where to buy boardgames in China, I would be interested.

So if you are interested feel free to bring your Chinese friends with you, the more the better! Of course girlfriends/boyfriends are welcomed to come as well.

Send me a message or text me if you want to join.

There are few board games on the top floor of Parkson's downtown in the toy section. They have Risk and Monopoly and a few others. They are in Chinese and English. I think they between 200-300 rmb.

Thanks for the info seahorse. Classic boardgames like monopoly and risk are cheaper, because they are produced in such large numbers. However they have little interest for regular game players. They have been overplayed and their rules tends to be too simple for generating interesting game strategies. Still i will have a look at Parkson's, they might have something more recent.

I went to Parkson and the choice is really limited. They only have Monopoly, Clue, Mastermind, Boogle, Scrabble, not even Risk. I might check the supermarket, apparently in Beijing Carrefour is stocking quite a few boardgames at lower prices.

News from the first meeting this Sunday 11th January.

We had 14 people coming and enjoying their time. There was more Chinese than foreigners. Out of the 9 Chinese there, 8 were girls!. So boys here is your chance to girls who enjoy games.

We do the next meeting this sunday at 2.30. Send me a message.
