Anyone that's been in Kunming for a while will readily acknowledge that the live music scene here is still - ahem - embryonic. There's a lot of local interest in music, but not much supply, be it local bands or touring acts coming in from the outside. That's why we were excited to find out that Finnish electronic music tour Sounds Like Suomi is planning a return to Kunming with performances on October 17 and 18.

Anyone who saw Sounds Like Suomi pass through remembers well. The consensus seems to be that Cleaning Lady stole the show. True to its name, Cleaning Lady was four men dressed up as maids who played a variety of homemade instruments crafted from household cleaning tools: washing machines, dryers, etc.

This year's performances will be at new venue The Shelter, located in the old bomb shelter at the rear gate of Yuantong Shan, north of Yuantong Si on Yuantong Bei Lu.

There is a new lineup of acts on the Sounds Like Suomi tour, which counts Nokia among its sponsors and will also travel to Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Shanghai. This year's acts are Bommitommi and DJ Dead-O on Tuesday Oct 17 and Jimi Tenor, Helsinki Ghetto Bass Patrol, Bangkok Impact and Them Shepherds on Wednesday Oct 18.

No word yet on ticket prices or start times, for more information, call Li Fan at 13908856156. Thanks to Xiao Lu for bringing this show to our attention.
