A group of ten up-and-coming young painters and photographers will celebrate the opening of their joint exhibition at Moondog on Friday evening.
The exhibition is being organized by Kollektive Kunming, a new group that aims to inspire collaboration among members of Kunming's creative community. There will also be live guqin and other traditional Chinese music, as well as live painting. More information about the event is available in English here and in Chinese here. The exhibition will run for at least a week after the opening.
The free opening party begins at 8:30pm.

Camel Bar celebrates April Fools' day Friday night with live music, DJs and drinks specials. The free party starts at 9pm.
Friday: April Fools' party at Laba
Over at Laba, in the Loft Jinding 1919 complex near the western end of Xuefu Lu, J.P. of the Québec Redneck Bluegrass project will perform a solo show along with sets from two of Kunming's most eclectic and dance-friendly DJs: Xiao Kris and Martin. The promoters are bringing their own bar supplies, including cold beer, and there will be drink specials. Entry is free and it starts at 9:30pm.
Friday & Saturday: Live music at 1895 Movie Bar
Eddy and Philippe play an eclectic duet for free starting at 10pm at 1895 Movie Bar on Friday night, with 18-yuan gin and tonics available from the bar. On Saturday night, David and Ian hit the blues (also free) starting at 10pm, with 10-yuan tequila shots on offer.
Saturday: Moviemaking seminar
Professional camera operator Stefano Della Pietra will hold a moviemaking seminar over the coming two weekends at Kunming College of Eastern Language and Culture. It starts this Saturday at 10am. Contact Stefano at 15969413109 for more details about the 150-yuan course.
Saturday: Kunming Market at Slice of Heaven
The monthly Kunming Market is back after a successful revival edition. The market will be held Saturday from 2 to 6pm at Slice of Heaven, on Hongshan Dong Lu, within strolling distance of the Green Lake area. There will be vendors selling a variety of natural and gourmet food items, as well as locally-made art and crafts.
After the market, owner Barbara will cook up an Indian dinner with samosas, butter chicken, dhal, side dishes and dessert. Everyone is welcome to drop by the market, but reservations need to be made for the 70-yuan dinner by emailing bduff98 (at) gmail.com or calling 15887253680.
Saturday: Live Jazz at Pizza da Rocco
Pizza da Rocco will have live jazz music featuring a Korean singer on Saturday night, along with the following drink specials: whisky, rum or vodka singles for 20 yuan and doubles for 30 yuan; Beerlao for 12 yuan and; and Château St Pierre red wine for 70 yuan per bottle (half off regular price). Anybody who orders one of the drink specials will also receive a free bruschetta. The music starts at 9pm.

Singer Dachong (大冲) and his band play folk-infused rock 'n' roll at The Hump Bar on Saturday night. Sample songs are available here. The free show kicks off at 9:30pm.

Lazy Bones Restaurant will have the usual Sunday brunch goodies, including breakfasts, pancakes, Italian specials and DIY bloody marys. The brunch runs from noon to 5pm.
