Forums > Living in Kunming > Stares, pictures without authorization and so...

I once had a man following me on the street with a video camera filming me. I started to walk faster and then running and he started to run as well. Got a cab and he pushed the camera to the window. That was by the electronics market not far away from wenlin jie.

When I get tired of people staring I just wear big sun glasses. People stare a bit less then. When people take photos I usually just cover my face and turn around if they haven't asked for permission and are being annoying.

What I think is amusing though is how a lot of people presume that just because you are a foreigner you wont be able to understand Chinese.

This 'positive' discrimination means that you as a foreigner get better treated than most locals, it's easier for you to find a job and friends. Trying to apply Western thinking to the Chinese society will only make your head hurt. There is nothing we can do about it so just try to do the most out of it. If nothing else you can always wear big sunglasses and a cap those days when you can't take people staring at you.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Fake Ikea store

@Geezer.This subject seems to make you so upset that you forget your manners. I haven't been to the store and my only information comes from the few articles I have read in the Swedish press. And then on the other hand, who would like to be hired by a person with such a nasty personality as yours?

Forums > Living in Kunming > Fake Ikea store

@Geezer. Yes, actually I am. As you said it might be a question of trademark infringement. It is still under investigation and we still don't know if the store is similair enough or if IKEA want to take it to court. These kind of stores usually doesn't have enough money for it to be worth suing them. But it's kind of funny that even the name (Shi Yi Ge Jia) is very close to IKEA.
