Museum housed in the courtyard home occupied on and off for a few decades during the first half of the twentieth century by American botanist and explorer Joseph Rock.

The museum has a large number of Rock's photographs on display, which are among the earliest and most extensive photographic examples of pre-revolutionary Lijiang.
