What happened to that place? Went there quite regularly in the past for their Amber Beer and a Burger. Went there last week again. The Amber they did not have available and the burger was – lets put it nice – disgusting! I ordered a Cheeseburger. After 30 Minutes I reminded the "waiter" about my "missing" Cheeseburger. Another 15 Minutes later I got a Burger with no Cheese but with cold fries and a huge leaf of lettuce almost the size of the plate. (Seems to me that the oversized leaf of lettuce was to camouflage the fact that there was no cheese available). The Burger went back to the kitchen. After one minute (!) I got the same burger with the same cold fries......but they added a scoop of deep-frozen kind of thing they call cheese on top......sorry guys- but never again. Not even for your life music or the Amber.

The beer is good. The food, OK, if you're dying for something Western. Food service is better in the daytime, mamahuhu in the night time.

I haven't stayed in their guesthouse, but I'll guess it's noisy in the night times.

Bad Monkey is a great place for heavy drinkers and tourists. The bar looks nice, chairs are ok and the bartenders are friendly.

The managers of the Bad Monkey are cool. They love to joke around with their staff and friends. They make and sell their own beer from a brewery they opened in 2012.

The food is ok. The only thing that I find weird is the cheese. They have a Sunday Roast every Sunday night at 7:30. It's basically a plate of roast meat, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, Yorkshire pudding, potatoes, stuffing and gravy. It comes with a glass of wine or any other drink you prefer.

They have live music everyday, sometimes only on certain days.

Come to Bad Monkey if you need a break from a hard day's work. An hour before dark is fine, this way you can get a seat before it's packed with groups of people.

Guess this is a "love it or hate it" kinda place (5 good reviews and 3 bad, nothing in the middle)...
I've known Carl and Scott for years, since I moved to Kunming in 2005. Since then their bar has grown and gotten better in every way: better food, better music, better drinks, and yes, the BEST beer around. If you don't like the beer they brew, I'm guessing you should stick to the Micky Mouse stuff like 2.9% lager ;) In 7 years, I haven't found a better spot in Dali Old Town. Keep rockin Monkey.
