I'm not exactly sure what is meant by "gay-friendly" places (places that don't mind having gays as customers?), but some of my gay friends would use a website called 'romeo'-something to meet new people when visiting Kunming or any new city. They meet in any kind of cafe or bar, regardless of whether it's gay-friendly or not.
