Changing money

I am about to sell my car, then I am leaving China shortly after. I do not want to leave any money in China.

I have a Bank of China bank account. So my plan is to go to a bank branch with the buyer, deposit the money into my account to make sure that all the bills are not counterfeit, then withdraw all the money at once and change it into USD.

So I had a few questions:
- Is there a daily withdrawal limit if you go to a teller? What is it?
- If there is a limit, can I just ask the bank to check the money for me instead of depositing it?
- Is there a limit to how much cash you can bring out of China at once?
- Any other funny business?

Thanks!

If you have a Chinese ID card (ie you are a Chinese) then its very easy to change up to 50,000USD of RMB into forex. If you are not a Chinese its difficult to change money, unless you can show the exchange slips for the similar amounts of money that you brought it.

So you could ask the car buyer (if he is Chinese) to deposit the RMB AND change as much as they can (50K limit) to USD for you.

For Forex cash in the past (1 year ago) the max limit for withdrawel of forex from the BOC was 5K USD worth of money. Probably no change now.

No limit on depositing RMB, but over 50K you need to show a passport. If you want to withdraw large amounts of RMB you need to make an appointment.
