Unlocking Iphone4s

Lynn4584 (2 posts) • 0

Does anyone know how to use an Iphone that was bought in America here in Kunming? I believe I need to get it unlocked. Does anyone know where I go to do this? Also will it work in America when I go back? Thanks for any help.

The jailbreak depends on which IOS you're using. If you're on IOS 6.1, you're out of luck on the unlock ... to the best of my limited knowledge.

You can try to take it to one of the apple specialist stores on or around 121 street - they MIGHT be able to JB it for you.

FYI - if the phone is properly unlocked, you can use it anywhere, with any appropriate SIM card.

I can get it unlocked for you for a small fee. I have had mine, my wife's and many of my friends phones unlocked. It works fine when I return to America because it is a factory unlock. I hope your phone is GSM, cant help if it is CDMA. Send me a message if you want.

Thanks for the help. Dbfan: I am not sure if my phone is GSM or not. How do I find out? Would you be able to meet up and unlock my phone?

I have an iphone 5 Verizon from the US, which is unlocked, like all Iphone 5's. Like all Verizon Iphone5's it is GSM and CDMA. Most important it is unlocked.
What is the most convenient and least expensive type of Nano Sim, with a prepaid plan that I can buy and where can I get it?
If Nano Sim's aren't available, what kind of Sim should I get to chop down to size?
I will want to be able to text to the US and in China.

How much does it cost to phone Beijing-Beijing and Beijing-Los Angeles?
How much is a data plan?
Can I use it as a personal hotspot, so I can use it with my MacBook in WiFi?

@big tuna. I cut my card down to size myself. Really easy. The apple stores here will also do it for free. As for data plans they vary according to what you need. As for calling the states I suggest you get a google voice number. It is free, convenient and has been very reliable for me. You can also use google voice to SMS for free as long as you have wifi or 3g. Look for talkatone in the apple app store. Sync your google voice number with talkatone and you are good to go. You can use the personal hotspot to link your mac book. As for prices you will just have to determine what plan you want once you get here. Hope that helps.

All iphones have gsm capabilities. You can get it unlocked from your carrier easily, as long as you paid full price for the phone, or paid out of your contract. If you bought the phone from a 3rd party you can only get a jailbreak unlock with a special sim modifier and have to get a new one every time you update your phone. If you paid full price or paid out of your contract i can easily get this done for you for free. Just message me your skype information. If the people you're trying to contact in the US have sprint there is a 15$ addon for unlimited texting to china. You'll pay normal texting fee's. As for calling, get a skype number and forward it to your chinese phone. that will let you get calls from them for free. but they will use their air time minutes even if they have free nights and weekends.

True all 4s are gsm and cdma compatible. What I meant to say is that if lynn's phone was originally locked to at@t regardless of whether or not it is still under contract I can get it unlocked. If it is any other carrier I cant help.

I have also found talkatone with google voice to be clearer and more stable than the skype number. But skype still has its place and I use it too.
