Hi, my soon-to-be 7-year-old son wants to study Kung Fu. Are there any places that offer lessons to children here that anybody knows of?

There are 2 places I know. The first is on the corner of Renmin Zhonglu and Zhengyi Lu. Never been inside just have seen the ads from the road.
The other place is on 121 near to Xiao Cai Yuan junction on north side. It's a stand alone gymnasium. They used to have classes for adults and children in a range of disciplines (I tried SanDa).
Sorry I can't help with names or phone numbers.
I've seen the place(s) advertised on the corner of Renmin Zhong Lu and Zengyi Lu, but I was under the impression that what they were offering there was Korean Taiquando - which for some strange reason seems to be more popular here than its native martial arts.

There is a WuShu class for children in the CuiHu park building,,just near the fountain,,,but I think that the reason why TaiKwondo is more popular (as it is with my son) among families in China is that WuShu practice is almost everyday and is VERY tough, kids who have schools and a normal life often just can't cope.
What is WuShu? Is it another name for Kong Fu?
i can introduce one, private wushu teacher, now teaching in a international school, good at teaching kids,if you are interested, send me a Email, thank you!

Thanks for the information. My son has now started studying WuShu (Gong Fu) at the place in the Cui Hu (Green Lake) park building four days a week -- and he loves it! It is quite flexible in that the number of days can be decided according to his own schedule. The places on the corner of Renmin Zhong Lu and Zengyi Lu were indeed Tae Quan Do classes. We went to watch it at one of the places but with three hours of standing in rows and only punching I was not so impressed. My son is though also taking a Tae Quan Do class at his kindergarten once a week and he likes that too. However, the WuShu classes for me (and my son) seemed much more interesting! On another note, I was told by one martial arts expert that the reason Tae Quan Do seems to be so popular has to do with the fact that it is quite simple and easy to learn. Personally, I don't know enough about it to say anything - so I am only passing on what I was told. By the way, there is also Aikido(合気道)offered with two-hour classes held six days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 7:30 - 9:30 PM, Saturday 2 - 4 PM, Sunday 10 AM to 12 Noon) on West Ring Rd. near the Kunming Medical College and a little past the track field, but they don't offer classes to children under 10 years of age. Classes are 240 kuai for one month.

Hey,
Im looking for a martial arts teacher and was hoping you could give me some details on the school your son is/was attending?
Do they teach adults? Do you have an address/email/phone number for them? Do they teach in English? etc.
