Like to learn a sport but 1on1 is too expensive...

Hi,

I'd like to perhaps try ping pong, badminton, tennis, football while I am in Kunming. I am close to the universities near Green lake.

But I have very little money and friends. I got quoted 60 rmb per hour at a ping pong place to learn ping pong one on one. I can't afford that.

In my country I'd just go find a sports club and join that. Isn't there something like that here as well?

most universities have these sports on their grounds. maybe you can find a student on the campus to play with?

Haali, thanks I've sent you my wechat.

Magnifico. Yeah I know. I'm not good so people get bored quickly. I'd like something a bit more organized. Especially if I want to play tennis for example. I have never even touched a tennis racket before.

there are some tennis courts on college campuses. you might be able to sneak in and nobody will say anything. not sure.

try placing an ad in the classifieds for someone who is also at a beginner level.

Most universities and schools have outdoor, permanently installed, ping pong tables.
If you turn up with two bats and balls, you will quickly get a game from random students passing by. There will probably be others playing. People on campus will just assume you are another student or teacher.
And its FREE.

You won't get a teacher, but plenty of practice is most important for most games. You can check the rules online if you are unsure.
You can also advertise for activity partners on here.

If your aim is just to do something, there used to be a lot of ads on here for Ultimate Frisbee, and bike rides.

Ping Pong and badminton are played all over the place, you just need to play with others and you'll improve. No need to find a teacher to pay.

Instead of paying - consider a barter system, where you can trade something you have (some skill or benefit) - trade in kind - to get your level up to beginner (as opposed to novice). Example - trading english language conversation for pingpong/badminton/art/drawing/musical instrument/computer etc lessons.

with the all-year round good weather, tennis should be more easily accessible.

but real estate generates more GDP. yippee!
