A huge amount of the world's arable land has been made unusable by overly intensive agriculture. However, with the addition of an estimated 3 billion extra mouths to feed by 2050, most of whom will be born into poverty, the demand for global agricultural production will only grow greater. This is why a coalition of nations has committed to restoring approximately 3 million square km of degraded land by 2020 -- all together, an area as large as all of India.

For May's Green Drinks event, the World Agroforestry Center's Rhett Harrison, PhD Professor of Tropical Forest Ecology & Conservation, will discuss strategies for addressing this pivotal challenge and show how land degradation affects us all, not only as a problem, but as an opportunity.
