St Patrick's Day in Kunming

By in News on

As Western holidays such as Christmas and Valentine's Day continue to gain in popularity among Chinese, it isn't much of a surprise that St Patrick's Day is becoming more of a cause for celebration in Chinese cities such as Shanghai and Beijing that have established Irish populations. Even Kunming – still waiting for its first Irish pub – has a few options for people looking for an excuse to blow off a Monday with a drink, or ten.

Halfway House on Dongfeng Xi Lu will be celebrating St Patrick's day tonight beginning at 10 pm with Irish music provided by DJ Da Make of the Tribal Moons. The free party will eschew green beer for not-so-Irish-but-somewhat-green mojitos on special for 10 yuan. Partygoers wearing green will be entitled to a free unspecified drink.

Down at Jinma Biji Fang, The Hump Bar will also be hosting a party with Irish music supplied by DJs Reverend Daneel Starr, Tim McQuimathy and Father Blitzer. One free Jameson whiskey will be given to anyone in green. The party starts at 10, admission is free.

GoKunming wishes its readers a happy and safe St Patrick's Day – however you choose to celebrate please make sure it doesn't include a stop at Kunming's laowai drunk tank.
