This Saturday, Tiger Beer Battle of the Bands 2012 (虎牌啤酒乐队龙虎榜) will hold its national semi-finals in Kunming. The three-hour event will take place outside at Wujiaba Airport, which has been vacant since the opening of Changshui International Airport earlier this summer.
This unique venue will be the backdrop as nine of China's best amateur bands compete for an international tour and 100,000 yuan (US$15,800) in cash. Participants have been whittled down from an original 315 during the nine-city tour.
The contest will begin at 4:30pm and will be accessible through gate A2. Bands will play on the tarmac. Tiger will provide double-decker buses – wrapped in concert advertising – to and from the old airport.
Buses will make stops at Chenggong, Wenlinjie and Xiaoximen. Due to permit problems, specific stop locations have yet to be announced. Information will be added to the comments section as soon as it is released.
The touring elimination-style contest has made previous stops in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Fuzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Changsha and Haikou. The Kunming show will decide which four bands will compete at the national finals to be held September 22 in Beijing.
