Is there anyone here who would like to start a stitching group? I'm still looking for something to keep me busy in Kunming, and I'd like to meet some people.
I live on the west side, but it doesn't take me long to get up to the Green Lake area. A coffee shop would probably be a better place to meet than a noodle joint :) I'm not sure how a tea house would feel about it.

Ooh, I like the idea of a stitching group. I knit very simple things. I live in the green lake area, but wouldn't mind an excuse to go to another part of town. Would be nice to get a group going!

Cool! When I get back into town, we'll get together. What days/times are good for you? I'm free all the time. :)

I think the Green Lake area is best suited for this sort of thing.
Today I sat for hours at a tea garden in Green Lake Park near the floating hamster ball things.
So, here's my suggestion - 2pm Saturday at the tea garden thing (bad weather backup - French cafe upstairs)
AND a weekday sometime. Wednesday 10am French Cafe?Call me at 1528-818-9747 if you're interested in coming, or just show up! I'll be the one with green yarn.

Last weekend was when I "discovered" the outdoor tea place and sat there with my husband, so there was no group yet. I plan to be there this saturday, though maybe a little late.

How about Monday evenings 7:30 at Slice of Heaven? It's located at 168 Dong Shan Dong Lu, not too far from Green Lake? If you are interested, come next Monday, September 13th and we can get together and talk more about it. Bring your projects too!
Hope you can come.

I have a friend who might be interested, but she's unavailable on Mondays. Any chance Tuesday maybe late afternoon would work for people?

Hi,
I'm likely to be visiting Kunming shortly and have been looking for addresses/locations of yarn shops. So far I haven't really found anything, but during my search I came across this forum and hope you'll be able to help me. So here goes: do you know where I can find LYS in Kunming? If so, are there shops that have some special yarns (i.e. mainly something else than acrylics)? Do they only sell local brands or also imported ones? Any and all information is welcome. :)

There's plenty of yarn shops around and some that sell really good Aussie merino. Come along to Slice of Heaven on Tuesday with a map and I'll show you where there's a good one. I'm sure others will know of places too.

what general area are you in? There's a small shop in Bei Chen a couple minutes walk from Metro that I go to every once in a while. Not sure the road name, but it's around the corner from the Silver Spoon Cafe on that main road. EDIT: to hopefully make that more clear, it's on the same road as Metro, on the other side of Beijing Da Dao. Walking from Metro it's a ways up on the left, just before the walking street that has the Silver Spoon and the Prague Cafe. (sorry my directions are so confusing!)
Near the Wen Hua Xiang area, there's a shop on a small road that runs parallel to Jian She Lu as it goes down the hill toward Xiao Ximen - if you're walking on Wen Lin Jie, going away from Salvador's toward Jian She Lu, cross at the traffic light and continue on the same road (I think it's name changes there though). Walk down the first road on your left, and the LYS is a little way down on the right. (sorry - I do directions by landmark).
And if you want lots and lots of choices, there's always the yarn section down in the Lou Si Wan in/near Cheng Gong - if you're taking the bus, the 170 and the 212 go from different places in the city and stop next to the Lou Si Wan — soooo many little yarn shops all in the one section.
