I live in Yuxi. Yes, there are trains between here and Kunming. I can't tell you about how to get a ticket, though.

They are slow and make a stop at every little farm village between the two places. But I reckon it'd be a good trip for the scenery if you've got some time to kill.

If you want to come here for a day trip, get a bus, or better yet, grab a 50kaui black car from Beijing lu. Those will get you here in an hour.
