Hi, I currently work for Shane English School, Yuxi, and have been here for nearly two years so I have a good understanding of how things are done here.....
Yes, Shane is a franchise, but we're not connected to other Shane schools in any way, other than the resources, branding, syllabuses etc that we use.
I'm not sure what experiences Dazzer has had, but it's certainly not from direct experience working in Yuxi. As mentioned above, I've worked here for nearly two years and have really enjoyed working here.
The school is run by a British guy who always supports the teachers and will do everything he can to help with anything they need. This is backed up by a great team of Chinese staff who is very well organized and are also very supportive of the teachers.
What some online forums have mentioned about 'Shane' schools is the 'hidden office hours', in Yuxi there are NO hidden office hours, teachers are expected to come in 30 minutes before their class, and that's it.
The city is a great place to live, with summer- like weather for 10 months of the year.
For a small city there are plenty of western commodities, supermarkets and restaurants to keep you in touch with those treats from home.
There's a small, but close expat community, who regularly get together for social events such as mountain hikes, trips to the hot springs and end of week drinks.
Of course, before I came to Yuxi, I'd also read some reviews about Shane schools in other locations and was also hesitant, but rest assured, Shane Yuxi is NOT connected, and NOT run by the same owners of any other Shane school, we do things our own way here, and that's the reason why many of the teachers sign on for second, and even third year contracts at Shane English school
