got stuck in the heavy rain earlier today (which only lasted 10 minutes or so). but a family restaurant saw me getting soaked as i was walking by and invited me in to get shelter.

nice friendly gesture. classic memorable china moment for me.

There never really was a drought. It is/was bad water management and a lot of water wasted.

According to locals the weather and supposedly lack of rain is nothing uncommon for Kunming in the past decades. As people can see, since the natural vegetattion didn't suffer in the "drought" and grows as happily as it did in the past decades.

Am I happy to see the rain? Yaha, becasue there is nothing better to have a wonderful summer rain, breaking the bad and sticky air.

There is definitely a drought. Just the last 4 years. Before that, it rained like clockwork. Of course there is also SO MUCH WASTE.

Well maybe it's a drought but according to the farmers that don't need artificial water supply for their food, it's nothing unusual and according to them they had much worse droughts in the last decade.

I talked to a fruit farmer when we went out picking fruit with friends and I mentioned the drought and he didn't quite understood what drought I was talking about.

Plus in my experience when I was in Kunming in 2002 or 2003, it was at least as dry as it is now. But I guess less populated, less (new) industry and less water used for golf course and tropical (non local ) vegetation on the roads leading to the Villa parks all around Kunming.
