Do people find fruit in Kunming in general to be more or less expensive than in other parts of China? I think it's more, but would like to hear some other opinions.

I think prices in KM are less other cities, unless you buy in the supermarkets. And the quality/condition here is better. Fruit in Shanghai has to travel for three days, and so has to be picked before it is fully ripened on the tree/vine.

But generally, even fresh foods have increased in price a lot, year on year, for about 5-6 years now. You cannot really compare last years BJ/SH/GX prices with this years KM prices.

BTW, I have just been in Dali, where fruit is generally more expensive than KM. Even though it is closer to the production. Supply chain issue methinks.

Fruit in Kunming does seem expensive, but it's cheaper than in a lot of other bigger Chinese cities. Fruit in Beijing, for example, is through the roof.

Of course, it depends on the supply chains. Shandong peaches and Xinjiang melons are going to cost more in Kunming.
But lucky for Kunming, it's close to a lot of fruit-growing regions, both temperate and tropical.

My favorite fruit season in Yunnan is winter, when we get strawberries, oranges, and my favorite, sugarcane.

Although I do look forward to Mango season every summer. I heard Yuanjiang's even got a Mango Festival.
