i have visited kunming a few times in the past couple years and have not really found a good cup of coffee until i went to chicago coffee this past january.
they, unlike any other place, carefully hand-roast their beans so you know you're not getting a cup of liquid charcoal. they can also make a quality espresso drink that rivals other big name western brands, and offer food that is both home-made and delicious.
other perks: free internet. western bathroom. cozy atmosphere.
where is it?..and what's it called?
Chicago Coffee
It's in the Think UK (Chuang Yi Ying Guo) complex on Jiao Ling Lu. It's really close to Wen Lin Jie. If you tell any taxi driver you want to go to Chuang Yi Ying Guo, they'll know where it is. It is at the end of the main road in the complex on the left hand side.
Ditto the above review. I started drinking my coffee black after I had their fresh roasted Tanzania Peaberry. It's amazing.
hmmmmm.... I must of been there on a really bad day. I found the coffee having a very bitter aftertaste usually due to too high a roasting heat after the second crack which burns the coffee bean oils. Haven't been back since to try again.
