Can you Taobao on IE8 and Win7?

Krismoonpie (80 posts) • 0

I've been trying for some time to get payment on taobao to work on IE8 and Windows 7 and so far no luck. Last year the word on the street was that it wasn't possible, now I'm finding some things online saying that it can be done but I've tried everything and when I get to the last step about to push the button on the usb key on the icbc/zhifubao payment page I get an error message.

I've installed all the servelets and usb lcd drivers as well as all the active x controls and bank management plug-ins and it took forever just to get to that last page but still no joy. Anybody figured this out? No speculation please, only want a solution from someone who can do it. I'm tired of having to only use the XP computer at work to buy stuff.

Thanks!

Hi there, if you use microsoft explorer browser to complete the transaction it works every time. Chrome and firefox browsers don't work.

I beg to differ. The problem is I've been using Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) on my windows 7 computer and haven't been able to get it done at all. I know Internet explorer is the only browser that works easily with taobao so that's all i use but taobao and zhifubao works fine with my XP computer and doesn't work at all with my windows 7 computer.

Hi Krismoonpie,

three thoughts (one solution), one question ...

Are you running Windows7 64bit? This might be where your problems emerge, as IE8 is around for quite a while now, as is Windows 7

1: See here... www.160du.com/a/win7jq/win7jq1/2010/0613/613.html
If your chinese is not up to date you can run it through google translate, the result is understandable.

2: You could try a browser called "Maxthone", I know some Chinese using this one. You want to try version 1 (also called classic), as it's is still built on IE7, therefore the problems with IE8 "should" be gone (unless it's a driver issue).

SOLUTION 3: If you have a WindowsXP cd lying around you can install a virtual machine on your Windows7 computer. Your computer will emulate (or fake) a new computer on your existing operating system. On this computer you can install WindowsXP and get back all the China-Compatibility you need. It's pretty pain free and very safe as you don't make any changes to your running system other than installing software. I should point you to the needed program, it's called virtualbox, you'll find it at www.virtualbox.org .
If you want more infos on this one I can sure help you out, but it would get too long for this thread (I am running one on Linux and installed one on OsX, Windows won't be much of an obstacle). Also gives you the advantage of having a clean and fresh system every time you start it, no viruses, no trojans... safer online banking. Think about it

Hello friend, have you figured it out?Do u use the "icbc usb" on this computer for the first time?I Guess the icbc usb can't be supported on IE8, call the icbc service line95588,see if there's a solution like "change your IE8设置".because i know mingsheng bank's internet bank also can't be supported by IE8 3years ago. if still can't work out, try BOC's online banking,i works on all type of internet exploer, BOC don't use usb, they use a "E-token",you don't need to connect it to the computer,it's a dynamic password device, the number shows on it changing every 30 seconds, so you don't need to worry about if you changing the computer.and no drivers at all, just an active x control the first time you use it on your computer,i'm also using it on IE8,it works on very well. You can get your "E-token" for free if you have a BOC card. If don't get it, leave a message for me,my pool english.:)
