Friday: Exhibition opening at 943 Studio
943 Studio will host an opening reception at its Xiba Lu location on Friday for a new exhibition called "Incubation" by American installation artist Karrie Hovey. The reception runs from 5 to 10pm and the exhibition will run from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Friday: Camel Bar relocation party
Camel Bar, a longtime feature of Kunming's late-night scene, will have one last blowout at its current location on Friday, before moving to a new space next week. The three-band, two-DJ lineup includes Mayuan Poets (麻园诗人), Qimuguang (七木广), Xi (嬉), DJ Zhao Zao (赵早) and DJ Xiao Kris. Camel Bar is pledging to provide free breakfast for anyone who makes it all the way through to 6am Saturday morning. The bands start at 9:30pm, the DJs at about 11, and entry is free.
Friday: Electro at Laowo Bar
DJ Circle of Plan from Dali will play electronic music including house and techno at Laowo Bar on Friday. The free party starts at 9:30pm.
Friday: DJ Groovemiki at Skyhouse Uprock
DJ Groovemiki performs at Skyhouse Uprock on Friday. The free show starts at 10pm
Saturday & Sunday: Filmmaking workshop
Stefano Della Pietra, a professional camera operator, will hold a four-day filmmaking workshop at Kunming College of Eastern Language and Culture starting at 9am on Saturday and completing next weekend. The workshop is open to both Chinese and English speakers and costs 300 yuan. Call Stefano at 15368862445 for more details.
Saturday: Back to School party at Lazy Bones
Lazy Bones Restaurant will have champagne rum punch (dangerous stuff!), cheap drinks, music, food and more on Saturday for its Back to School party. The free party starts at 7pm and runs late.
Saturday: Breakdancing competition at Laowo Bar
Any b-boys or b-girls who want to compete at Laowo Bar on Saturday can register or get more information by calling Axin (阿辛) at 15887201028, or just show up in person at 7pm. For spectators, the competition starts at 8:30 and entry is 15 yuan.
Saturday: Live solo music at I Am Living
Solo guitarist/singer Lin Tianran from Lijiang will play at I Am Living on Saturday. The free show starts at 9pm.
Saturday: DJs DSK and Groovemiki at Skyhouse Uprock
Kunming's DJ DSK and DJ Groovemiki of Qingdao will be scratching the vinyl live at Skyhouse Uprock on Saturday. Entry to the 10pm party is free.
Sunday brunch + football at Lazy Bones Restaurant
Lazy Bones will hold its legendary Sunday brunch this weekend, which includes English & American breakfasts, pancakes, french toast, burgers and ribs, Italian specials, a make-your-own bloody mary bar and mimosa and beer specials. This week, there's also steak barbecue, with imported tenderloin and Kobe beef steaks. It runs from noon to 9pm. Starting at midnight there will also be live football (that's soccer to all the Yanks out there) with the Carling Cup final on the big screen, featuring Arsenal vs Birmingham.
Sunday: Roast meal at Slice of Heaven

The breakdancing thing last night at Laowo Bar was pretty cool. Some of those kids have serious skills and inhuman strength/weight ratios.
Thanks to all those that came to the great party last Saturday night at Lazy Bones. Elliott really knows how to throw an affair! The drinks and food were great, we had a good time playing music and Rob killed it on guitar! I can't wait for the next one!
