It didn't look like a powerful blow, but Xiong Chaozhong's (熊朝忠) right fist clipped Pongpan Patanakan's jaw at the Kunming City Stadium on Saturday night with sufficient force to send the Thai boxer crumpling to the canvas just after the start of the fourth round. It was a victory by knockout.
With the win the 29-year-old Wenshan native and member of the Miao minority group captured the vacant IBF pan Pacific light flyweight title and the interim WBC Asian Boxing Council light flyweight title. He now has 15 career victories.
This should also propel Xiong higher in the world rankings and further his quest for a world title fight. He is also seeking sponsors to support his training.
Xiong's knockout blow is near the end of the video clip displayed below (please ignore the cursing foreigners).
In the night's other bouts, featherweight Xu Congliang of China lost to Jonathan Baat of the Phillipines, Chika Mizutani of Japan beat China's Shen Danyue in the women's lightweight bout and Chinese super featherweight Xia Yuqin defeated Nam Joon Lee of South Korea.© Copyright 2005-2022 GoKunming.com all rights reserved.
