What an awesome adventurous experience! Meteor and Dinosaur are not just friendly and kind, they are highly skilled climbers who are able to guide, teach and motivate a rookie like myself all the way to the top - 20-27m. After our trip, I'm definitely interested in learning more about this sport and becoming an adequate climber. Contact them - you'll have the time of your life!

I can't say enough good things about these guys. I've climbed with them several times and whether I brought a newbie with me or a seasoned climber he made the day exciting for us. He gave us routes that matched our skill and pushed us to learn and do more.

Meteor got me doing crack climbing the first day I was with him, now he's helping me improve my flagging. Every time I climb with him I leave a better climber.

Met a friend after dinner for drinks and chat up on the rooftop patio/bar. Music was a little loud for us - but was surprised at this jewel of a bar. What a nice comfortable place.

I was told the hostel only charges cny40 a night for a shared room bunk bed - can't beat that.

Truly a gem for travelers on a budget and the rooftop bar has a beautiful and memorable sunset view (see the pictures).

Stopped by last night for dinner on the small patio and to pick up a couple of their apple pies. Always attentive and courteous staff and good solid food. Don't forget to check out their freezers for frozen foods like chicken and beef pot pies, pizzas, quiches, cakes etc.

The revised edition of Uncle John's does not come close to what it was. They have some of the same beers from before, but the ones we ordered were all flat with absolutely no head, and the server tried to explain that fresh kegs are like that. The small space and poor air flow makes it stuffy quickly, especially with smokers in the room (we were a group of ten with no smokers, there were only four other people, and it still felt stuffy). I haven't been to the Dada side of the operation, but in my opinion The Dude is a failure. The only reason it doesn't get only one star is because it's a sort-of new operation and they might be (hopefully) working out the long list of bugs.

This cafe is actually in the Yunda Green Lake campus and connected to the French Language school operated by Alliance Francais or the French Alliance.

It's mentioned elsewhere that pastries are provided by A Table down the street on Beimen Jie.

Aside from the no-smoking ban (since it's on-campus in Yunda) - it's a nice, quiet, smoke free and pleasant environment to rest, read, and relax for bit - if you happen to be on-campus and can't find a place to sit.

I have not worked at i2, but I will throw in my 2 cents. I applied over a year ago to i2 and I was refused there despite having over 9 years teaching experience, all the required documents and a passion for the job. The interview I had began with a question about my faith which I duly answered because I like to always sustain clarity in my relations with people, especially people I will be seeing daily.

After discussion, I have been refused the job on the grounds that they did not believe me to be able to juggle between work and my stated goal of learning Chinese saying "You are a good teacher indeed, but the working schedule may not allow you to learn Chinese that well as you wish".

I never thought that having 2 days off in the week, plus the mornings of 3 days off (plus evenings of Saturday and Sunday) would not be enough to learn Chinese...at least as "well as" I wish. Then to their credit, I can understand that in the "money over education" scheme they live by, it is unimaginable that a language may be learned in such a manner.

And yeah...religion had nothing to do with that.

P.S: Finally, local teachers in Kunming teaching in other branches narrated of reviews by actual teachers who worked in i2 saying very similar things the negative reviews here do.

Recently had wild mushroom hot pot here and was impressed with the great setting (a beautiful old house in Kunming Old Street) and the quality of the food. It's small, with only a few tables, which is great for a more private occasion. Because of the limited capacity, it is recommended to book in advance.
