Anyone have recent experience with Guangzhou Embassy lately? I need to renew my US passport and looking for some updated info on your experience.
How about a service that can do this for me so I don't need to travel to Guangzhou?

I just got it all taken care of. Passport renewed. Actually now you can do it all 100% online. There are some exceptions, but for me I never left Kunming. All handled directly through Guangzhou and express mail. It took about 4 weeks from start to finish.
