Thanks. You mentioned the tax being 3K for a 300K car. Did you mean 30k? I think I heard it's supposed to be 10 percent of the buying price.

Grats on your new wheels. I'll keep you in mind next time I get into a taxi from the Kunming DeathTrap Company :)

Has anyone bought a new car within the last year or so in Kunming? If so could you tell us about the procedure, taxation, getting plates, hidden costs, good advice, anything really? Much obliged.

Hadn't seen it before. That wasn't just bullying but assault and it was indeed pretty sweet to watch the little tosser hobble away.

"As for the location, well how about one of the empty new satellite cities. With a bit of luck McDonalds could be encouraged to relocate too. They could form a kind of US theme park somewhere outside the second ring road and take all those gordy coca cola tents with them......"

Sarcasm detected. Please put the keyboard down and step away from the internet.

I for one think it's a sad day whenever Starbucks opens in a new city. It'd better if they stayed away.

Lovely. Just got an official piece of paper translated and verified by my embassy. They stamped and signed it all over BUT unfortunately they also wrote my birthday wrong in the accompanying letter which now has been rejected by the Chinese authorities even though it's CLEARLY just a typo and my passport number and every other identifying information in the letter is correct and can be verified through a simple glance at my passport. I have 5 days left to meet a deadline on this and now because Chinese government officials can't think for themselves, won't trust anyone and, frankly, can't distinguish their heads from their asses as well as would never even dream of doing anything that might be of any use and service to the people, I seriously think that I am in a right pickle and it's going to cost me at least 4-5000 to get out of it. I am so unbelievably happy that I'm NOT a Chinese citizen and this has yet again confirmed me in never letting my kids be one of the poor souls of this bureaucratic hellhole.
