A Chinese lady dentist today told me that I needed a root canal and some crown work for 6,200 RMB. A friend from Shanghai said to get the work done in Thailand which I will probably do because I'm going that way anyhow. Perhaps down there it might cost 3 or 4 hundred dollars US or less if i'm lucky. However, I was hoping to work here for a while with one if the Chinese TV productions going. If that job pans out I will stay here and seek out a good dentist here in Kunming who can do the minimal amount of work so I have no pain and then get the follow up work done in Chang Mai.
Any advice from the expats here would be welcomed.

I've had a few friends suggest dental work in Thailand. It seems to be the place to go. I had some dental work here in China, and as far as I can tell they don't care about the cosmetic appearance. Root canal/ crown.. they don't try to match the colours with your other teeth. So yeah, I would suggest Thailand.
If I'm wrong and there is a decent dentist here in Kunming that cares about cosmetic appearance, please let me know!
Also, 6,200 RMB seems super expensive. My root canal cost 400 RMB. Granted not here in Kunming, in Hebei province, but still shouldn't be that much more expensive.
