Common terms you may need to know:

An= 庵 = An Tang = 庵堂 = Buddhist Nunnery or Convent

Chan Yuan = 禅院 = Buddhist temple or monastery

Ci = 祠 = Ci Tang = 祠堂 = Ancestral temple

Dao Chang = 道场 = Taoist or Buddhist rituals performed to save the souls of the dead.

Dian = 殿 = Palace

Dian Tang = 殿堂 = Palace or hall in a temple

Dian Yu = 殿宇 = Palace

Miao = 庙 = Miao Yu = 庙宇 = Temple

Guan = 观 = Dao Guan = 道观 = Taoist temple

Si = 寺 = Si Yuan = 寺院 = Monastery

Wen = 文 = Wen Miao = 文庙 - Confucian Temple

There are 28 temples in Xi Shan District. I have listed a brief description of how to get there by bus but some locations require more specific and lengthier explanations.

This is so nice of you to share, thank you. Might some of these temples be possible to reach and find within 1,5 hours, coming from the Wenlin jie area? (Because I always get off school at 3 PM). It would be very helpful if you could give further directions to those temples that are more difficult to find. On saturday, I'll be going to the Xi Shan area temples that you recommended in your last post in the main temple thread.

If you need specific instructions for a specific temple you want to visit I will be happy to give you the details. Unfortunately, I can not put lengthy details here for all 28 temples. As of today, I have personally visited 27 of the 28 temples and have all the details on how to arrive quickly.

Next week I will go to the last temple - Fa Jie Si - which is near Bamboo Temple and Jiao Ye Park (Bus C62).

Okay, sweet, thanks. So, of these temples, which would you say are the most interesting? I might not have time to go to them all. I've already been to Longmen, Taihua si and Huating. I much prefer buddhist temples to Daoist ones.

I have 6 more temples to visit in Wu Hua District so I will have a complete list of the Wu Hua District temples by the end of next week.
