Kunming and Burma (Myanmar)

I think the error message from the myanmar.com server answers that nicely: 404 File Not Found. If you go to the myanmar.com homepage, you'll see that news is now located at www.myanmar.com/news/index.html. The Consulate-General simply seems to a little behind on its link checking.

Thanks for introducing me to a useful site. But, surely, the www.mcg.kunming site is a Burmese government site and the www.myanmar.com site is a private site, or it seems to be.
My point being, how can you have a Burmese News site without any real news, if you see what I mean.
My friends outside this country are quite able to log on.
See what I mean.

I've had no problem in the past accessing the Myanmar site from China. In fact, the last time I was at the Myanmar consulate in Kunming during June 2007, they gave me a free promotional CD with plenty of information on it. If you are in Kunming, then try calling in personally to the consulate.

Do you really need to ask this question? It's China. The website to my bank in the USA is blocked. If people outside the country can log on, then you need to get a proxy server so you can get around the blocks on blogs, news sites, etc.

I use one called Vidalia. Google it and you should be able to find and install it with little problem. It bounces the websites through Europe so you can view them here. It does slow them down a little, though. It's easy to turn off when you aren't viewing something that is blocked.

[I hope I don't get deported for posting this on here...oh well.]

I guess that I was being a teeny bit political. I mean, we all know why this country uses Internet censorship about 'this country', but why would they block stories out of Burma (as if I didn't know).
My other name is Mischief. ;)

seriously, at least for english language sites, the "great firewall of China" is much exagerated. For example I can acces my favorite porn and gambling sites w/out a proxy server, and I can get plenty of foreign newpapers that are critical of China, as well as video critical of the cultural revolution on youtube. Stop believing western propaganda, this is not an authoritarian country. Of course seom subjects are blocked like f*al*n gong, or free t-bet, but it is nowhere near as bad as some believe. And flg has it coming, they are a cult.

You won't get deported for you post--bigger fish to fry. Like most countries many things may be illegal here, but as long as you don't cause any trouble you can do almost anytihg you want.
