Agreed on the 5am. I find the best time is early morning. Afternoon sucks!
Also, I had to change the DNS settings on my router. Seems like the great firewall is now blocking some DNS addresses (or is that MORE DNS addresses).

A little further south the New Era hotel is around 600 per night and very nice.
Toshiba builds a more reliable laptop. Whatever you get, stay away from HP!
I was able to purchase Win 7 Ultimate (English) here in Kunming. It had to be special ordered. It was not cheap! Many of the computer shops here just install a pirated version of the OS.
I've run both Office 2007 and Office 2010 on Win 7 and since it's backward compatible you could even run older versions, but why would you want to.
Enforcement is not the first problem with new laws. I've been in two restaurants since the new non-smoking rules came into effect. The first was a Japanese restaurant on the 6th floor of Brilliant Plaza. Ashtrays were still on the tables and restaurant patrons were smoking while walking around the buffet.
Today we were at Club Dubai on Lin Yu Lu. This is an extremely large upscale place. Ash trays are still distributed. We commented on this to the young lady who was seating us and she was not even aware of the new law - and THAT is the problem. There's a new law for restaurants but nobody has been told about it!!!!!

Had my first ever visit to Slice of Heaven last night for a group party. Barbara recognized me as a newcomer and immediately came to welcome me and introduce herself.
While speaking with her at the counter, a server walked past with a pizza for one table. The aroma immediately caught my attention. It was awesome.
Our group shared 4 different pizzas. All were amazing. I think the sauce really makes the difference since it was very flavourful. I also put back to cups of cappuccino. I guess they must have fixed problems noted in other reviews because I found it to be quite good.
If I lived closer I would be a regular here.
Kunming to invest in public electric car fleet
发布者Great idea to reduce emissions, but I fail to see how this "solution" will reduce traffic congestion which is a result of poor road design and idiot drivers.
China's national meat scandal hits Yunnan
发布者According to the article this stuff had an enormous value. How can tainted rotten meat have any value?
Climate change goals could cost China 41 trillion yuan
发布者Part of China's problem with the use of coal could be lessened quickly by switching to cleaner forms of coal. A slightly longer term solution may be to install scrubbers on the coal burning plants to trap the pollutants. The technology exists!
Yunnan fossils shed light on evolution of ancient brains
发布者I know this article is talking about me. It says that old fossils have brains.
Blaze guts Guandu market, killing twelve
发布者@Haali,
I was thinking the same thing. I'm surprised there have not been a lot of fires started by fireworks when they set off the rockets within 3 minutes of the tent where they are stockpiled and sold.
