the gold mining industry has never telling us that it's goal is to save the world by being a solution to the energy shortage/environmental/pollutin..etc. so the comparison you were trying to make is a bit "unfair." :-)

solar hot water systems are not that innocent, actually. if you notice the tube is shinny blue in color.:-) in manufacturing, barium, aluminium nitride....sometimes fluoride are used, and a cocktail of chemicals are used in cleaning before putting that solar selective coatings that giving that blue tint look.
now, while i am having a "free" hot bath with the thingie on the top of the roof, in the back of my mind, i know the notion of having something "free" has taken on a new meaning :-) often, at the expenses of other people's health or life. do i feel guilty? no, i meant, i dont really know. :-( it is up to china to do something for its own people. on that point, i am feeling better. again, not really. :-(
Even the solar hot water system is not real free. If you do a bit of research, you will find it produces toxic waste during manufacturing. In china, that industry (solar panels included) is thought to save the world, actually makes a lot of rural people sick, from mining to get the raw key ingredients to final packaging. So the USs imposing a high duty on the imports from china might have good, tho not intentional, effect for some Chinese people. :-)
In BJ, kitchen knives, choppers are taken off shop shelves. People are using their nice Mac book to cut meat and veggies, I guess. :-))))))) Internet? What Internet?

imagine two spoiled brats try sharing the same space. hahahhahah
when i was in beijing in the early 90s, i was fascinated by what i saw, four adult watching a teen enjoying a saedae in front of the big M, and the parent was clearly enjoying being hit by the little one protecting his spoil. the little sweetie grows up with no concept of sharing.
