some people may dream dance around china and believe everything that's been told to them. I did. when i got to china first, I loved it. Then the more I saw and understood, the more terrible it got.
Also when your car has a flat tire you dont ditch the car. You stay ariund and fix it. Right?
I don't hate China...not at all. I have a great time but that doesn't mean i have to eat spoonful of BS from Chinese or foreigners. in terms of business;my biz is secret sensitive, i had three potential partners, who all tried to steal the idea and my customers...one was even stupid enough to tell a mutual friend. even.for a thief thats incompetent, don't you think.
But please Jean show me one sign of competence in china. Except a few food related skills. Show me one skill or sign of competence that is not stolen.
If you have an excellent business model expect China to steal it. No doubt about it. If you come to China expect to get cheated. Expect to be sold counterfeit goods. Expect to get sick from eating here. It's just a fact. I would never start a business here unless it is something that can't be copied or ripped off. I can understand where is @Dudeson is coming from.
@competence in China: the production of some amazing food. That's one.
@Liumingke: I very, very rarely get sick from eating in China - plenty of other countries in which this has happened more often.
No comments on running a business here, but I know some people - non-Chinese people - who do so successfully. And some who've been ripped off.
competance in ...rip offs
To be fair, it's not all bad. I'm by no means saying that. That being said, you do have to be more careful here. I based this only on MY experience.
@Liumingke - "expect China to steal it" - do you mean the state?
I mean either or (individuals or State). China has a culture of stealing ideas and intellectual properties and claiming it their own. It's part of their culture. It's a fact. Of course NOT everybody does it but enough people do it that China has a reputation for it. Just be careful.
Right of ownership of ideas and intellectual properties, as well as ideas of rights of ownership generally, are interesting concepts, and a part of many cultures, but they seem to be a bit different in different places and at different times, and I'm not sure we all really agree about them anywhere - there seem to be a lot of non-owners, and varying numbers of thieves, for some reason. But that's a deeper question we don't need to go into here, although we might want to remember it. I'm not making excuses for what is considered theft in any culture - theft too is a pretty widespread, somewhat general, concept - just interested in reasons.
And then there are laws - who breaks which laws, where and why?
I'm not as clear as I'd like to be about theft in China. To say it's part of the culture doesn't explain why.
My guess is that we're not helping Nicy Zhu much.
Interesting how so many specific issues wind up being discussions of "China" generally - wonder why that is? Seems to be a form of group behavior. Must be annoying to many Chinese.
i agree with alien.
many companies are very happy to cooperate or partner up with others if you give them the right pitch. Others are willing to put their name or product on your idea, for some exposure. which is a good and fair share.
what bothers me is the IP theft to cash in, for plain a** greed. passive greed.
if they ask for permission i guess most companies would even offer some coop or give away proper license, blueprints for an older product for a reasonable price. But that would mean actual working out a plan and pitch a.k.a proper business, and as i mentioned before, thats where most chin. businesses rather steal and cheat. not all but a the majority, and why wouldn't they. there is no incentive or punishment for doing otherwise.
Don't know how you've determined that it's the majority.
