something slightly different to think about. i am current working with a team that examining financial arrangement and changes in investment behaviors in cross-border marriage couples between hong kong chinese/singaporean with chinese heritage/taiwanese with their mainland partners. leaving the financial parts aside, we pulled in the data from the Census and Statistics Department of Hong Kong, here are the interesting figures. the median age difference is 8 year (older male). then the breakdowns are: 4 yr younger ~22%, 9 years younger ~23%, 14 yrs younger ~17.8%, 19 yrs younger ~12%, 24 yrs younger ~6.6%, 25 yrs and above younger (median 33) ~5%,5.4% same age, only 7.9% with the male is younger than the female. the interesting parts is, of all of them 3% are sham marriage resulting the involving parties receiving jail term and one party deported. more interesting is, a 37% marriage ended in divorce or requiring follow up visits of social workers 2 year after settlement in hong kong. we are pulling in the taiwan and singapore data. work in progress. :-)
