Shipping oranges from the southern hemisphere works. Of course it has a price in money and pollution. Just buy that what is in season.

There's a great deal of good fruit, and a lot of variety, available in Yunnan - a lot of things unavailable where I grew up. Also true of vegetables.

As a true contribution to this post I'll add the teppanyaki restaurants (I know not 100% truely kunming food) as a good place to go.

teppanyaki: Yes, there's a good one just around the corner from Moondog.

In the new shopping center opposite to Carrefour at Beijing Lu / Baiyun Lu intersection, there is a popular new hot pot restaurant.

Their marketing strategy includes offering services to customers waiting to be seated, and that comes in need as you rarely can get seated without waiting 2+ hours (at least on the popular days).

For example you can have your mobile phone screen cover changed, shoes cleaned, nails done, etc without additional cost. There's also small snacks and juice available.

We went there last Friday evening at 17, but got too hungry while waiting and left to another establishment around 20.

Also, their mobile service, which you are supposed to access to browse the menu etc, by reading the QR code in your waiting ticket, was down at least that day.

I wouldn't wait 2 hours for hot pot (or any other meal) anywhere, and there are about a million places in town where you don't have to. How much does this place cost?

Has anyone try 最云喃 yet? Another really good place is the 1910 south train station, both have good Yunnan food.
