This month I've had 3 acquaintances from different countries that were denied entry back into China at the Mohan/Boten border crossing. They were forced then to make the 12 hr bus ride back to Luang Prabang, and on to Thailand to try to get into China that way. They all had valid visas from the Vientiane Chinese consulate, but at the border officials gave different excuses for not letting them cross. For one European friend, they said his passport was a fake, even though the consulate had just granted a visa, and for 2 friends from India, they just gave the run around with no clear answer why. Wanted to pass on a heads up - going into Laos via Mohan/Boten is no problem, but crossing back into China could be troublesome there.
