Does anyone have any experience with back issues here in Kunming? I have a pretty sore back which I feel is related to spinal issues. I am wondering if anyone knows where to go to get treatment. (including possibly Chinese medicinal hospitals, Chiropractors, or Physiotherapists) Thanks for your help.

I have experience with back issues. As I write this I can barely walk due to my lower back pain. This has come on suddenly 2 days ago. Yesterday I went to the "top hospital in Kunming" to get some help. Kunming Shi Zhongyu Yen hospital. Typical crowded, dirty, noisy place where I got an x-ray they said looks ok. They never really said what was wrong cause they really don't know, but I got a herbal patch applied to my back, some Chinese medicine pills and sent home. 250RMB later, my back is still screwed up. Should have done what I know to do, which is to go to Bangkok and get proper treatment. I will try a "sport massage" tomorrow for kicks and to help support the Kunming business, but I don't hold much hope for this as well.
If you got a bone broken, they may fix you up ok, but I got the clear impression these "doctors" (?) don't know or care about you receiving beneficial help except through trail and error practices. Jump on the net and diagnose on your own and/or get out of China for some professional treatment.Good Luck.... you're gonns need it!

There is an absolutely wonderful Chiropractor in Chiang Mai by the name of Ken Leeper who is co-owner of a spa called Shane Wana. He does Chiropractic, Cold Laser Therapy, Ryodo Raku, Energy Rebalancing, and NAET (an allergy elimination program) as well as correcting an spinal sublinations. His email is "Ken Leeper" <yamitis55@yahoo.com> and the URL for the spa is as follows: http://www.shewewana.com/. They also offer a FIR Sauna (excellent for detox) and Ion Foot baths. Highly recommended to make the trip to Chiang Mai if you have back issues or other health issues. Ken originally got into chiropractic himself because he also had some back issues. peace, prd34

thanks guys.
I have asked around quite a bit, and went to the Richland clinic (a place I know and trust) and got a small, effective, but incomplete back adjustment for 70 kuai total. My back feels much better, and I can at least function. I dont know if I would trust the doctor there to do complicated neck or lower back adjustments, and he certainly doesn't have the same tables as a chiropractor, but if you had middle back pain, I might suggest going to him, and then bridging to a chinese medicine hospital.
I appreciate your addition of the Chiang Mai chiropractor, however, with my school schedule and budget I can't take the time to make that trek all the way there.
I also have seen, in hospitals first hand in Shanghai, doctors doing neck, back, and lower back adjustments in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals. I suppose maybe you need to really demand that somebody give you an adjustment instead of just getting a patch of medicine.

oh and also, bucko... I might try to go to Richland and ask the doctor to help you... maybe he can. He speaks English very well and if nothing else may be able to write down the exact problem or problem area to help the zhong yao doctors. Maybe he could even make a phone call...
Sorry about your pain!

I know it has been a while you posted on this topic but for your information, there is a chiropractor in Chengdu who can be contacted either by phone (13628018307) or by email (karen@tianfuwellness.com).
Hope that helps!

Well, I'd think twice before spending 600 rmb on the local DC mentioned above. It definitely wasn't worth the money. She is too cautious; seemed afraid to adjust me. Spent a lot of time advising me on healthy lifestyles. That is nice, but it's not why I went there. I have had much better adjustments for $25 back home. It's clear she hasn't a lot of experience. I won't be back.
