If you mean Yuxi City, that is a long way from Fuxian Lake (which is in Yuxi county).
One way to book hotels, cheaper than Ctrip, is to put a city in GoogleMaps, and then when the map is focused on that areasearch hotels. It will show locations and give you online booking prices, but you can also get the phone number of the hotel and phone direct. Negotiating direct can often get you a much better price, exceptions in high season and popular tourist destinations.
I think that is a chain. You will have similar training and levels of professionalism, IF there is good franchiser control. However, I imagine they have only styled Asian hair types. They will probably be under more pressure to up sell you a perm, or colouring that will be more expensive and that you might not want.
Industry standard for most chains of hair salons in China is that they will also offer big discounts IF you pay several thousand upfront for a discount card, and this is the HARD sell. If you are tempted by the pre-pay card, check the small print, ask for full details. You may find you have to pay for an overpriced cut to qualify, and you might only be able to use it in that branch, and the price of a hair-do could be several times the price of a regular salon.
I would have thought that the first port of call for information would be the Chinese Consulate in LA. They are issuing the visa and they can tell you exactly what THEY want. Anything else is speculation.
In the unlikely event that you are told you need a medical, after you get to Kunming, then there is an official clinic for entry/exit medicals www.gokunming.com/[...] The clinic is about 15 mins walk from the nearest subway station. If you get the health check done at this official clinic, then nobody will question it. I think it cost CNY480 for the full set of required tests. It takes about an hour (they only test mornings), and three days later I collected the report (issuing in afternoons only).
You could also try the Boloni flagship store on XiYuan Lu. That is where we got ours. But it won't be cheap, and it won't be free standing.
If you want a cheap freestanding oven, then they sell a few different brands/sizes in Metro. These are much cheaper, but you don't get thermal insulation or a double layer glass door. The cheap ones work fine, but you will need to buy an oven thermometer (about 20-30 rmb, online) as thermostats are not that accurate.
Off topic, but related to theme songs. When we watched terrestrial TV we listened to the whole theme, even if only in the background while we quickly made a cup of tea or finished off some other chore. With streaming, or watching box sets, we quickly FF over the theme song and titles. We are missing a lot of great music.
Everything else said by the last two posters can be captured within the idea that we no longer live in a society, we live in a market.
A reasonable choice of lumber that has improved over time. Fancy hardwoods like walnut, and mahogany are in abundance. There are some plywood and rubber-wood boards available. There are also some kiln dried imported softwoods and merbao available. Some of the lumber is very green, so look for the kiln dried if you need stable timbers.
Echo everything said by others.
Breakfast great and the serve from 8am. Most other places say 9am and they still are not ready.
Sandwiches are cheap 22-32, and really packed full of filling. We got some sandwiches for a day out, the only mistake I made was ordering two, as this was too much. These are seriously good sangars, and they are wrapped in alu foil.
In fairness to Metro, they are a wholesalers, and not really a supermarket. Hence the need for a card, which can be got around.
They have improved in the year I have been away. They now carry a more consistent range of imported foodstuffs and they also seem to have sorted out the mported milk supply.
They have a wider range of electrical appliances now, there is a coice of more than one toast. There is also a better range of seasonal non foods, like clothes, shoes, garden furniture and camping gear.
