Forums > Living in Kunming > Suggestions for Lake visit, S. Chenggong area

One thing I often miss is the freedom of access to the countryside, bridle paths (tracks foot and bicycles only) and getting away from traffic, that I had in the UK.
I live in Dianchi Resort area, and it is a frikin nightmare at times. An area not really suitable for cyclists, or even pedestrians a lot of the time.
I wish they would build a cycle path around Dianchi, or even just the Grass Sea. i am sure it would be popular and draw tourists.

I am not sure if they are parks or part of University or Yunnan Bai Yao's campuses.

The one lake the metro is Guanshan reservoir.

Looking at google satellite images it looks like it is attached to the Yunnan Bai Yao facility. There appears to be agriculture and not much else. However there is road access to parts of the lakeside.
The next nearest is 2km south Hengchong reservoir. It does not look like there is much access to water side. No sign of cars on the roads near the lake and it might be gated.

About another 1km west is Shaoshan Reservoir, there is a resort listed on the west side. That means that there will be access to the water’s edge at least, although swimming may not be allowed.

If you have bikes, it might be worth doing a tour of the three lakes. They are also close enough to walk if you wanted a day out.

Didi chi is so convenient, you could even go to the end of the subway and try that for transport.

If you main factor is near the metro, there are a couple of nice parks within easy walk of ChunRongJie metro station in the north of Chenggong.

Let us know what you find.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Getting a full heart examination done in Kunming

I would be cautious about going to a specialist hospital, as they can be pretty limited in facilities and outlook. They are more likely to rely on private medical care to pay the bills, not a good thing IMHO, as it can be abused.
I have had very good treatment at Yunnan 1st Peoples Hospital on JinBi Lu. They have a fairly new caridiac department. It is a very big hospital and a good heart unit.
Kunming Yan An hospital on Renmin Dong Lu also has a good cardiac department. A bit old but very busy, good facilities and good doctors. I think Yunnan's top radiographer is at this hospital, for getting your xrays analysed.

NB If they mention a CT don't panic about cost, it is very cheap here in China.

I think a bit more digging is needed on the following points:
There are 3 new classes of vehicle covering ebikes. 2 are motorcycle classes, but these are new classes and may well be allowed inside the inner ring road.

As they are new classes of motorbike it might be that a simpler test than the usual motorbike test might come into play.

If that is the case, don't assume that if you have a motorbike licence already, that you will be covered.

As these are national regs, it would also be worth checking websites in BJ, SZ, and SH. These sites get more traffic and have more staff. Some of the questions we have may have been answered already.

If you cannot get a license the point is moot. Being a long term teacher with business savvy is not enough to get one. It is a lot more complicated that you think.
If there are outstanding liabilities the point is moot.
If the business case in that location, and political environment does not stack up, the point is moot.

I hope someone from local government reads this.

It would be good if they replant with varieties that are more indigenous to the area. Both drought and cold resistant.
Vast amounts of water is used on a lot of the shrubs in the city when the weather is dry, and the subtropical species with very fleshy leaves will tolerate neither frost, nor drought.

Ok, some of these species may not be as pretty but they are more sustainable.

Like or not, the growth of fast food will demand more potatoes, and it could be a big cash crop for farmers in areas not suitable for growing rice.
On a purely selfish note, it might encourage locals to learn to cook potatoes, instead of serving them half raw.

This has moved.
The cut flowers are about 700m east on Duonan Jie. The plants and trees are about 700 m west and follow Duocai Section.

A reasonable choice of lumber that has improved over time. Fancy hardwoods like walnut, and mahogany are in abundance. There are some plywood and rubber-wood boards available. There are also some kiln dried imported softwoods and merbao available. Some of the lumber is very green, so look for the kiln dried if you need stable timbers.

Echo everything said by others.
Breakfast great and the serve from 8am. Most other places say 9am and they still are not ready.
Sandwiches are cheap 22-32, and really packed full of filling. We got some sandwiches for a day out, the only mistake I made was ordering two, as this was too much. These are seriously good sangars, and they are wrapped in alu foil.

In fairness to Metro, they are a wholesalers, and not really a supermarket. Hence the need for a card, which can be got around.

They have improved in the year I have been away. They now carry a more consistent range of imported foodstuffs and they also seem to have sorted out the mported milk supply.

They have a wider range of electrical appliances now, there is a coice of more than one toast. There is also a better range of seasonal non foods, like clothes, shoes, garden furniture and camping gear.
