Forums > Living in Kunming > Salt - Old Towns in Yunnan

I just returned from Nuo Deng (Yunlong), Dali this afternoon. I also visited another salt Town (Bao Feng) which is 10 km south of Yunlong and it was great. A bus ride from Xia Guan to Yunlong is only 3 hours via highway and a very good road.

Here is one suggestion - The 3 ancient salt Towns of Yunnan. They are not crowded and great for history buffs.

I am a history buff so I have visited all the Historical and Cultural Sites of Yunnan (Kunming). Some of these places are NOT very popular so they are not crowded. If you dont want to travel so far then you can look for these places in and around Kunming.

If you want to venture a bit further you can look for The Historical cities, towns and villages of Yunnan. Be prepared to travel to many out-of-the-way places to find them because they are located all over Yunnan.

Here is a link to the Stone Dragon Dam right here in XiShan District. However, you will have to go to Anning to reach it. This place is really amazing as it is the first Hydro-power station in CHINA!

Unfortunately, after 6 years, I am no longer maintaining my website. However, the 3 Old Salt Towns include:

1 - Heijing - Chuxiong - Lufeng County
2 - Nuodeng - Dali - Yunlong County
3 - Shiyang - Chuxiong - Dayao County

These are the 3 ancient Salt Towns of Yunnan. They have a lot of history and they are part of the Ancient Tea Horse Road.

I read somewhere that to make a liter of coke or pepsi they needed over a gallon of water - not very eco-friendly.

I really would like to know what that magic ratio really is - water:coke.

The water that is sprayed on the streets to reduce dust and on the plants and trees comes from the sewer. If you look carefully, you will see the trucks lined up near the canals filling their tanks. They do not use potable water for these things.

The new Visa office is located at 118 Tuo Dong Road. There is no number on the building yet so do not bother to look for it. There are 2 passport photo shops on either side of the building. The office is located directly in front of the Kunming Museum. The bus stop is named - Shi Bo Wu Guan - Bus 1, 62, 109, 117, 145, 213, A1 and K3 stop directly in front of the office. Foreigners need to go to the 3rd floor. The Tuo Dong Stadium is located to the right of the office while Baita Road is located to the left of the office.
