www.thedailybeast.com/[...]

Great film - I think the Sherpas should all join a Union and make the nasty foreigners pay dearly for their little adventures or make them carry their own crap by themselves. The sherpas have to carry the foreigners crap over 30 times in one season up and down the mountain and they barely get paid for their hazardous work. I hope this sets wheels in motion so they can finally get paid what they deserve.

I thought it was great that they were able to band together and end the season with one swift blow. I am glad the foreigners lost their $60,000 - $100,000 for their 8 week trip. Now they have to go back home and get more money and try it again next year. Hopefully the sherpas will strike again until they are paid for their services.

While white people are shocked at racism because of a commercial by chinese Palmolive they see nothing wrong with the racism that goes on in Tibet and other parts of the world.

Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary reached the summit together in 1953. No one knows who the sherpa is because he does not count. Only white people are important. Hillary would have never reached the summit without the sherpa who carried all his crap.

Looking forward to the 2016 season being cancelled again after the foreigners pay - Haha! Thumbs up for the Sherpas!!!

Sir John Bagot Glubb wrote - The Fate of Empires and Search for Survival. In his book he talks about the lifecycle of historical empires. He claims that the average lifespan of an empire is 250 years and that it goes through 6 stages. I was very surprised to find obsession with food at the top of the list.

Stage 6 is the Age of Decadence in which there is:

Obsession with food and Chefs
Undisciplined + over extended military
Conspicuous display of wealth
Disparity between rich and poor
Obsession with sex
Debasement of currency
Distraction by gladiatorial Games
Idolization of sports figures
Immorality + apathy
Desire for eternal youth
Consumerism
Saved for posterity.

Just yesterday I watched something about this on the bus. The Customs folks stopped and confiscated a few big trucks on the road from Puer. The trucks were not refridgerated so this is one of the cause of the problems. So if the meat did make it in to its final destination it had to be repacked and refrozen after the long trip. Perhaps the meat in the center of the truck can keep but surely not the meat on top or the sides.

Since I live on Zhao Zong Road I decided to pay this reservoir a visit via bus #7 which is 2 stops from my home.

The first thing I noticed is that there is plenty of constructuion going on - a new retaining wall is being built as well as a brand new pumping faciltiy with several large pipes to divert the water.

At the time this article was written, this reservoir may have just been a pond but that is no longer the case. "There are no pumping facilities or drains at Zhaozong Reservoir — it is simply a large pond".

The construction workers said that because water is such a precious commodity in Kunming every drop will be put to use in the near future.

Bus #7 to the Zhao Zong Yi Zu Cun Kou Bus Stop. Turn left when you see the Long Hua Temple a few meters before the main entrance to Sen Lin Hu = Forest Lake = 森林湖.

There were at least 20 redundant signs on the walking trail every 10 meters that clearly read - NO SWIMMING!

The new Visa office is located at 118 Tuo Dong Road. There is no number on the building yet so do not bother to look for it. There are 2 passport photo shops on either side of the building. The office is located directly in front of the Kunming Museum. The bus stop is named - Shi Bo Wu Guan - Bus 1, 62, 109, 117, 145, 213, A1 and K3 stop directly in front of the office. Foreigners need to go to the 3rd floor. The Tuo Dong Stadium is located to the right of the office while Baita Road is located to the left of the office.
